Ten Steps is a card game where you climb a ladder of ten phases. In each phase you must collect a particular combination in your hand, sets, runs or cards of one colour, and lay it down on the table. Whoever completes the tenth phase first wins.

At STEKIUS Ten Steps is played online for free, with friends or with AI players, on a computer or a phone. Below you will find all the rules, the ten phases, what the wild card and the Skip do, and how the points are counted at the end of every hand.

The deck

The deck has 108 cards: the numbers 1 to 12 in four colours, twice each, 8 wild cards and 4 Skips. In every hand each player gets 10 cards, and the rest stay in the deck.

Your turn

Your turn has three steps. First you draw a card, either from the deck or the top card of the discards. Then, if you have the whole combination of your phase, you lay it down, all at once. Finally you discard a card.

You tap your cards to select them. You drag one onto the discards to throw it away, onto a group on the table to add it, or between your cards to put it wherever you want and sort your hand.

Set, run and colour

All the phases are made of three kinds of groups. A set is cards with the same number. A run is numbers in order, in any colours. A colour is cards of the same colour, with any numbers.

The wild card plays as any card, but every group needs at least one normal card. The Skip, when you discard it, makes the player you choose miss their next turn.

The ten phases

The phases are played in order, from the first to the tenth:

After your phase

Once your phase is down, you can add cards to any phase on the table, yours or the others’: you tap a card and then the group. That way you empty your hand faster.

The hand ends when someone runs out of cards. Whoever laid down their phase moves on to the next one, while the others try the same phase again in the next hand.

Who wins and the points

The first to complete phase 10 wins. If more players finish in the same hand, first place goes to whoever has fewer points. At the end of every hand the cards left in your hand count, and the points add up over all the hands: the cards 1 to 9 count five points each, 10 to 12 ten, the Skip 15 and the wild card 25.

Before it starts, the table can choose to carry on until three players have finished, so that everyone fights for the next places too.

Chips and leaving

Chips are shared out by place: what the first players win, the last ones lose. The chips are virtual and shared by all the games. If you leave after the second hand has started, you pay a leave penalty instead of your loss, never both. Before that, and when there is already a winner, you leave for free.
