Ludo online at STEKIUS: roll the die and go home
Play nowLudo is the board game that has made whole generations grumble: just when you are one breath away from home, someone lands on your piece and sends it back to the start. It is simple, quick and perfect for groups of every age.
At STEKIUS you play Ludo online for free, with two to four players, with friends or with AI players, even in two teams. Below you will find all the rules: how the pieces come out, when you roll again, where nobody can be captured and how you win.
The board and the pieces
2 to 4 players play, with four pieces each, in the four corners of the board. Your base is always bottom left on your own screen, so you never have to look for which colour you are. Everyone plays with one die.
Each piece goes once all the way round the board and then up its own coloured path to home, in the middle. Nobody else can enter your coloured path.
How you play
On your turn you tap the die in the middle of the board to roll it. Then you tap one of your pieces that light up, or the circle where it will go, and the piece moves as many squares as the die shows.
The others play in turn, and next to every name you see what they are doing and what they rolled. That way you follow the whole game even when it is not your turn.
The 6 and leaving the base
A piece leaves the base only with a 6. While all your pieces are in the base, you get three tries on each turn to roll a 6.
After a 6 you roll again. But if you roll three 6s in a row, you lose your turn. You also roll again when you capture a piece or when you bring a piece home.
Capturing and the safe squares
If you land on a square with a piece of another colour, you capture it and send it back to its base. There it needs a 6 again to come out. That is the moment the grumbling begins.
On the stars and on the starting squares nobody can be captured. They are the safe spots of the board, where you can wait without fear.
Playing in teams
With four players you can play in two teams: you and the partner you choose in the opposite seats, against the other two. Partners never capture each other.
Whoever has brought all their pieces home carries on playing their partner’s pieces, so that the team finishes together.
The table’s rules
Before the game starts, the table chooses its rules: whether there are safe squares, whether you roll again with a 6, whether there is a bonus roll, whether an exact number is needed to get home and, with four players, whether you play in two teams.
Winning, chips and leaving
Whoever brings all four pieces home first wins. The virtual chips are shared out by place: what the first players win, the last ones lose, and in teams every winner wins the same. After the first rolls, whoever leaves pays a leave penalty, never together with the loss; with teams, the game ends there and the other team wins. When there is a winner, you leave freely.
Tips
- Do not leave pieces a few squares in front of your opponents; they are an easy target.
- Use the stars to wait safely.
- With a 6, think whether it is better to bring out a new piece or to move one that is in danger.
- In teams, look after your partner’s pieces.
